Back to School...

School is in Session!

I can't believe that it has been "eight" months since I last wrote on my blog.  Shame on me!  The last time I visited here, I was just returning back to teaching after a year and a half.  Where did that school year go?!?

Last year was a blur to say the least!

Finished the school year as a Read Intervention teacher which was one of the most awesome experiences I have ever had.  Working with children from 1st grade - 6th grade who were a year or more behind their reading grade level was both rewarding and fun.  The children I worked with came from all walks of life, but unfortunately most of them live in very poor conditions.  But oh how they appreciated every day eager to learn.  My days were filled with hugs after hugs.

I am returning this school year to a new position as an elementary school Librarian & new school within the same school district.  I am so excited about the new school year and new challenges.

During the time I have been gone from my blog, I have managed to keep up with my Etsy shop.  If you haven't visited for awhile, you will be pleasantly surprised.  Lots and lots of colorful & fun snap hair clips have been added.

Cross my heart, I promise not to neglect my blog again!  I have missed blogging and all of you.

Until then... take care and have an awesome remainder to the summer!

Butterflies and the Season...

Spring has always been one my favorite times of the year, not sure why since living in Arizona I know that HOT weather is soon to follow, maybe it's the knowing that makes me appreciate the cool weather so much more.

We also see an influx of butterflies during this time of the year, so I can't help but be motivated to fill my shop with the wonderful, graceful creatures.   Such as the pair below...

I love the royal blue in these beauties with just a hint of red.  I can imagine them fluttering past and the amazement they bring.

Imagine wearing these lovelies on Fourth of July.  Don't they speak of patriotic?

But then anyone, anywhere can wear these with their vibrant color and receive ooh's and aah's.

When I created these I wanted to make hair clips that made a statement.  Did I do it?

The majestic black with the various shades of green with a hint of yellow is so striking!

Hope you have enjoyed my mini preview of the collection of lace butterfly hair clips, with many more to come in my Etsy shop in celebration of Spring.

Have a wonderful week!

Yo-Yo Rosettes a Small Bit of History

Recently I have become addicted to making Yo-Yo Rosettes and now making them into barrettes, hair clips and ponytail holders. So of course I just had to know where they originated. It has been so much fun reading their history.

The word Yo-Yo comes from the Filipino word for “come-come” or “return”, and that it was very popular in the 1930-40s.  In the 1920s a man named Pedro Flores brought a Filipino Yo-Yo to the United States. A businessman named Donald Duncan bought the Filipino Yo-Yo Company around 1928. In 1932 Mr. Duncan received a trademark for the word Yo-Yo.

Yo-Yos were popular because women could carry the little circles of fabric with them and make Yo-Yos whenever they had a free moment.

I vision ladies sitting around in their wonderful Victorian chairs with gas lights or lanterns, chatting about their simple lives and using their scraps of fabric to create these lovelies.

How many hours do you suppose they spent cutting small circles of fabric, then hand stitching them to create beautiful quilts with their rosettes?

Maybe one day I will take up the challenge and create a wonderful quilt that can be handed down.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Spring is a Coming...

Living in Arizona has it's challenges, one being the HOT weather. Cool days are few and far between. Spring, Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons, even though we don't experience change of seasons. We simply go from brown to brown, but oh those cool days are glorious.

I fill my life with color through fabric and creations made from them. Recently I
have taken on the challenge of creating fabric flower button hair clips. I am having so much fun making them. The combinations are endless!

I ooh and ahh after each new hair clip, thinking to myself, this one is prettier than the last one. Of course it isn't, because they are all PRETTY! :)

If you asked me to pick just one, I couldn't do it. Nope, I sure couldn't.

I hope you have enjoyed a sneak peek of what I have been up to this week.

Now I am off to create more lovelies.

Have an awesome day!
